single-span Town lattice truss 161' 7" over Big Clouds Creek. Located:
Southeast of Thomaston, Georgia on Old Allen Road. Directions:
From Thomaston, Georgia, take US 19 south 12.0 miles to Allen Road, on
the left; follow Allen Road to the bridge. From the jct. of US 80
and US 19, south of Thomaston, Georgia, take US 19 north 2.0 miles to Allen
Road, on the right, then go 0.7 mile to the bridge. (Allen Road loops
back to US 19.) The original 1892 bridge cost $1,199.00. That
structure was restored in 1985 and destroyed by flood water from Tropical
Storm “Alberto” in July 1994 and was totally rebuilt in 1997, at a cost
of $209,000.00. The bridge is located in a large, open, county-maintained
area and has been bypassed by a new bridge on the downstream side and is
no longer open to motor traffic. Also known as the Hootenville
Covered Bridge and the Zorn’s Mill Covered Bridge.
The original bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places
on April 1, 1975.
