Cromer's Mill Covered Bridge
Franklin County, Georgia
(WGN 10-59-01)  (WGCB GA-59-01)  (1906; restored 1998-99)  A single-span Town lattice truss 132' over Nails Creek.  Located:  South-southeast of Sandy Cross, Georgia on abandoned old SR 106.  Directions:  From Carnesville, Georgia take SR 106 south 8.0 miles to Cromer’s Mill Bridge Road, on the left.  The bridge is immediately on the right, on an abandoned  section of SR 106.  SR 106 originally transited the bridge but when the route was realigned, the bridge was abandoned, and fell into disrepair.  In September 1998, extensive repairs at a cost of $147,815.00 were started, and completed a year later.  The Town lattice truss is fastened together with tree-nails, has timber chin braces inside each portal, with four additional sets of galvanized steel chin braces equally spaced between the timber chin braces, that were added  during the 1998-99 restoration.  Set over heavily wooded Nails Creek the bridge is not open to motor traffic.  Also known as the Cromer Mill Covered Bridge, the Nail's Creek Covered Bridge and the Cromers Mill Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 7, 1976.  (Mar 2006)
