Haralson Mill Covered Bridge
Rockdale County, Georgia
(WGN 10-122-A) (WGCB GA-122-A)   (1997)  A three-span non authentic Stringer truss 151' 5" over Mill Rock Creek.  Located:  Northeast of Zingara, Georgia on Haralson Mill Road.  Directions:  From Loganville, Georgia, at the intersection of US 78 and SR 20, take SR 20 south 7.0 miles to Bethel Road; go left to Haralson Mill Road; go left to the bridge.  It was built at a cost of $880,000.00.  Construction of the new bridge at this site was necessitated due to the planned raising of the water level of Big Haynes Reservoir, that, at certain times of the year would have inundated the roadway.  It replaced an authentic historic covered bridge.  The bridge is two lanes wide and, constructed to accommodate multi-axel vehicles.  Is the longest non authentic covered bridge in Georgia, and is also the longest in the Southeastern United States.  Inside the bridge, at each side, are pedestrian walkways, separated from the two travel lanes by double planks, placed on edge and serving as tire bumpers.  It has a decorative lattice imitating the Town lattice truss design of the replaced authentic covered bridge.  Also known as the Rockdale Covered Bridge and the Rockdale County Covered Bridge.  (Mar 2006)
