County, Georgia
(WGN
10-58-01) (WGCB GA-58-01) (1906; repaired 1998)
A single-span Town lattice truss 93' 8" over Settendown Creek. Located:
North of Heardville, Georgia in Poole’s Mill Bridge Park. Directions:
From SR 20, in Ducktown, Georgia go north on Heardsville Road (turns into
Heardsville Circle) to Poole’s Mill Road, on the right. The bridge
is in Poole’s Mill Bridge Park, at the left corner of this junction.
A earlier bridge at this site was lost in 1900 by a flash spring flood.
In 1998, extensive repairs were done, at a cost of $283,403.00. The
structure rests on dry natural stone abutments, sporadic mortar being added
in later repairs, and a central concrete pier, added during the 1998 repairs.
The bridge is in a relatively exposed setting in Poole’s Mill Bridge Park.
Closed to motor traffic, the bridge originally carried Poole's Mill Road,
prior to its rerouting, across Settendown Creek. Also known as the
Pool’s
Mill Covered Bridge and the Setting-down Creek Covered Bridge.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 1, 1975.
