Shiloh Walking Trail Covered Bridge
Carroll County, Georgia
(WGN 10-22-01) (WGCB GA-22-01)  (1993) (Private)   A single-span Town lattice truss 42' 9" over Sams Creek.  Located:  In Burwell, Georgia at Shiloh United Methodist Church.  Directions:  From south of Tallapoosa, Georgia at the I-20 and SR 100 intersection, go south on SR 100 through Kansas, Georgia to Smithfield Road, on the left; follow to the center of Burwell, Georgia (Smithfield Road becomes Burwell Road).  The bridge is behind Shiloh United Methodist Church, on the right.  This is a private bridge.  In 1991 church members drained a lake that was formed in 1949 in Smith Bottoms and created gravel walking trails which meander by apple, oak and other in memoriam trees over an arch bridge and through the covered bridge.  The bridge was constructed in the style of a 19th Century Town lattice truss bridge, making it a modern authentic covered bridge.  Part of the structure is made from 100 year old white oak and poplar timbers from an old Davenport Mill Road Bridge.  The bridge is relatively open all around, with a low wooded hill on the upstream end.   (Mar 2006)
