Big Adventure Covered Footbridge
Oxford County, Maine
(WGN 19-09-06)  (WGCB NH-09-06)  (1999)  A single-span Paddleford truss 49' 11" over a unnamed stream.  Located: On the north edge of the locality of Bethel, Maine, within the Bethel, Maine, town line  on the 12th hole at The Big Adventure Center miniature golf course.  Directions:  In Bethel, Maine, at the jct. of US 2, SR 4, SR 26 and Parkway, go north on US 2, SR 4 and SR 26 for 0.4 mile crossing a steel-and-concrete bridge to North Road on the left (West); turn left onto North Road to the Big Adventure Center parking area.  In preparing a focal point for the 18 hole miniature golf course at Big Adventure Center, its builder, as well as owner of the center, went to one of his favorite historic covered bridges in the area - the Sunday River Covered Bridge (WGN 19-09-04).  He took measurements of all the essential elements of the bridge and personally erected an exact 50% replica of the bridge in every detail, from the scaled-down trunnels, which are used to provide the essential joinery, to the scaled-down cedar shakes on its roof.  The structure provides the fairway entrance to the 12th hole of the Big Adventure miniature golf course layout.   (May 2005)
