Garrison House Covered Footbridge

(WGN 19-16-c) (WGCB ME-16-c): (1999)  A single-span non authentic Stringer truss footbridge 24' over a unnamed brook.   Located:  In Wells Minor Civil Division, Wells, Maine at Garrison Suites Motel & Cottages at 1099 Post Road (US 1).  Directions:  From Wells, Maine at the jct. of US 1 (Post Road) and SR 9/SR 109, go south 1.1 miles on US 1 (Post Road) to Garrison Suites Motel & Cottages at No 1099 on the left.  The bridge provides access to the Wells Defense Commemorative Plaque mounted on a granite block.  The structure is supported by three small steel I-beam stringers, set on a poured concrete base.  Gray weathered vertical boarding covers the portals and sides to rail height.  The floor has crosswise planking and the gray weathered wood cedar shingled covered roof and portals project beyond the entrances providing additional weather protection for the interior.  Also known as the Garrison Suites Motel Covered Footbridge.  (Sep 2007)
