19-16-d) (WGCB ME-16-d): (1985) A single-span non authentic
Stringer truss footbridge 36' over a tributary of the Saco River.
Located: In Saco City Minor Civil Division, in Saco, Maine at Jubilee
Park off Water Street. Directions: From Biddeford, Maine
at I-95, Exit 4 (SR 111, Alfred Road), go east on US 1 (Elm Street), go
left 1.6 miles to Water Street on the right just across the Saco River,
follow 0.1 mile to Jubilee Park and the bridge on the right. The
abutments and stringers were constructed by the Saco Jaycees, and the superstructure
constructed by the Biddeford Vocational School Students on the school grounds.
Construction started in 1983 and was completed in 1985. It is is
the longest single span non authentic covered footbridge in Maine.
The structure is supported by four medium steel I-beam stringers.
Brown stained vertical boarding with battens covers the exterior of the
sides and horizontal lapped boarding covers the portals. There are three
parallel vertical windows on each side and brown stained vertical tongue
and grooved boarding covers the interior. The floor has crosswise
planking and the old weathered wood cedar shingled covered roof and portals
project beyond the entrances providing additional weather protection for
