Snowmobile Covered Footbridge
Kennebec County, Maine
(WGN 19-06-b)  (WGCB ME-06-b)(1971)  A single-span non authentic Stringer truss footbridge 24' over Faber Brook.  Located:  In Winslow Minor Civil Division, Maine, north of Lambs corner at the jct. of Nowell Road and Shorey Road.  Directions:  From Winslow, Maine, at the intersection of US 201/SR 100 and SR 137 go east 4.8 miles on SR 137 to Nowell Road on the left, go 1.0 mile to the bridge just off the road to the  left and just before Shorey Road on the left.  The overgrown former snowmobile trail is accessible from Shorey Road.  The bridge has been abandoned since the trail was closed several years ago when one landowner restricted the passage of snowmobiles.  The structure has ramps at each end.  It is supported by two utility pole stringers and its floor consists of longitudinal planks, and the floor of the ramps consists of transverse widely spaced planks.  Old weathered horizontal boarding covers the sides to a very low rail height with a simulated Town lattice above to the eaves.  The gables are also covered with the old weathered horizontal boarding.  The roof is covered with dark weathered cedar shingles.  The roof and the gables extend slightly beyond the entrances.  A portal sign reads "ITS 85 - This Bridge and Trail maintained by the Fort Halifax Snow Drifters Snowmobile Club, Winslow, Maine."    (May 2006)
