Stoddard Shell Museum Covered Bridge
Lincoln County, Maine
(WGN 19-08-02)  (WGCB ME-08-02)(c. 1991)  A single-span Town lattice truss 55' 3.5" over an artificial stream.  Located:  On the Dolphin Mini Golf enterprise, along SR 27, within the Boothbay Harbor, Maine town line.  Directions:  Along US 1, east of Wiscasset, Maine, at the jct. of US 1 and SR 27 South, go south on SR 27 for 7 miles to the jct. with Hardwick Road on the left (east).  The miniature golf course and covered bridge are on the southeast corner of this junction.  The sons of Kenneth E. Stoddard spent time visiting and photographing some of New Hampshire’s covered bridges and were fascinated by the Ashuelot Covered Bridge (WGN 29-03-02).  So, in 1991, they carefully measured the major timbers of the bridge and returned to Boothbay, where they erected a late twentieth century, reduced replica of that bridge at their entertainment center, the Dolphin Mini Golf Enterprise.  The bridge is an authentic Town lattice truss span, over a artificial stream between the miniature golf course and the ice cream pavilion.  It resembles the Ashuelot Covered Bridge (WGN 29-03-02). in most respects except for size.  Unfortunately, Mr. Stoddard passed away before the bridge was completed.  His shell collection is on display in the bridge.  Also known as the Kenneth E. Stoddard Covered Bridge.   (May 2006)
