A two-span, non authentic Stringer truss footbridge 20' 4" over unnamed
stream. Located: In Grantsville, Maryland at Casselman Motor
Inn off Dorsey Hotel Road. Directions: From Grantsville, Maryland
take I-68 west to exit 19 to north on SR 495 (Bittinger Road) then right
on Alternate US 40 (East Main Street) 0.3 mile to left on Dorsey Hotel
Road. The Casselman Motel Inn, the former Dorsey's Hotel, is at the
far corner on Dorsey Hotel Road and East Main Street. The bridge
is 100 yards down Dorsey Hotel Road, at Ravine Street, on the left.
The bridge was built sometime between 1982 and 1985, on the property of
the Casselman, an 1824 hostelry which is still open today. The footbridge
provides passage over a small unnamed stream between a parking lot and
the rooms of the motor inn. At 6' 1" wide, it is the narrowest non
authentic covered footbridge in Maryland. Three wood steps and a
handrail provide access to the north-northeast entrance of the bridge while
the south-southwest entrance is at ground level. There
are two benches on the north-northeast side of the interior. The
sides consist of hand height pickets with a top rail, open to the roof
and the floor consists of crosswise planking and it has a shake roof.
