Roddy Road Covered Bridge
Frederick County, Maryland 
(WGN 20-10-02)  (WGCB MD-10-03):  (c. 1850; modified c.1950's, 1979 and 1994)  A single-span Kingpost truss 39' 2" over Owens Creek.  Located:  North of Thurmont, Maryland on Roddy Road.  Directions:  From Thurmont, Maryland take US 15 north to right on Roddy Creek Road 0.5 mile to the jct. with Roddy Road and the bridge on the right.  The bridge was built at about the same time as nearby Utica Mills Covered Bridge (WGN 20-10-01), making them the oldest authentic covered bridges remaining in Maryland.  It is  not only the only authentic covered bridge in Maryland with a kingpost truss but has the distinction of being the shortest, and with the Foxcatcher Farm Covered Bridge  (WGN 20-07-02) in Cecil County the narrowest, at 16'.  Steel I-beam stringers were originally added some time prior to 1954, replaced in 1979, and November 1994.  When originally photographed on February 23, 2004, the bridge had sustained some storm damaged (first two photographs).  When retaken on March 24, 2004, all damage had been repaired (the remaining two photographs).   Also known as the Roddy Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 23, 1978, along with two other covered bridges in a group.  (Feb 2004/Mar 2004)
