Howe truss 95' over the Green River. Located: In Greenfield,
Massachusetts. Directions: From
north I-91, take exit 26, and bear right at the exit ramp. Continue
0.7 mile left onto Conway Street for 1.5 miles, take another left immediately
after crossing a steel and concrete bridge then 0.8 mile to a "T", passing
the Greenfield Municipal Park on the right. Take a right 0.1 mile
and bear right onto Plain Road. Continue on Plain Road 2.9 miles
and turn right onto unmarked Eunice Williams Drive. The bridge is
0.2 mile down a winding road with very sharp curves. The present bridge
was dedicated on October 29, 1972. The Original 1870 bridge was lost
to fire in 1969. An article in the Boston Globe, dated November
25, 2002 indicated that the "State's Covered Bridge Languish In Disrepair.
Five of Massachusetts's seven covered bridges are now closed. The
Eunice Williams Bridge in Greenfield was recently ordered closed after
inspectors discovered it was warping and the structure was slowly being
torn apart." It features a covered pedestrian walkway, unpainted verticle board and batten covering on both the sides and portals and a wooden deck with lenghtwise runners. Also known as the Eunice Williams Covered Bridge.
