Ashuelot-Winchester Covered Bridge

New Hampshire No. 1 (WGN 29-03-02) (WGCB NH-03-02): (1864; rehabilitated 1999)  A two-span Town lattice truss 169' long with spans of 77' and 77' 3" over the Ashuelot River.  There are sidewalks on both sides and the bridge is currently posted for six tons.   Located:  In the Upper Village of Ashuelot, New Hampshire, just off SR 119 over the Ashuelot River in the town of Winchester, New Hampshire.  Directions:  1.7 miles west of jct. SR 10 at Winchester, New Hampshire on SR 119 and then left on Bolton Road to the bridge which is clearly visible from SR 119.  The bridge is considered by by local historians to be one of New Hampshire's most elaborate covered bridges. The original purpose of the bridge was to transport wood across the river for use by the Ashuelot Railroad, which had a station on the south side of the river in the village. Some sources credit Nicholas Powers as the builder.  The original cost of the bridge was $4,650. It was completely rehibilitated in 1999. Also known as the Village Covered Bridge, the Upper Village Covered Bridgeand the Village Station Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places February 20, 1981.
