The wooden covered bridge was erected to replace a town bridge that had existed on Stowell Road. Estimates for a modern concrete bridge were about $100,000. The current structure is a pre-engineered bridge system. The bridge deck was supplied in three panelized sections consisting of dowel-laminated solid Douglas fir timber. The deck panels were spliced together by means of shiplap joints. The bridge kit also included an interior guardrail, wall framing, and a roof. The fir deck timbers were creosote treated prior to lamination to seal the wood and prevent decay, and the entire deck area was surfaced with asphalt. The framing material for the walls and roof were coated with a fire retardant paint. The entire bridge kit cost $33,000. Also known as the Stowell Road Covered Bridge.  (Oct 2003/Sep 2007)
