completed in 1829. It was built in accordance with Ithiel Town’s
Lattice truss patent at a cost of approximately $2,400.00. It is the first
and only bridge on this site and was in continuous use until 1999, when
it was closed to vehicular traffic. The bridge suffered severe damage
from floodwaters, especially the flood of 1927, when a large tree floated
down the river and pierced a portion of the lattice truss. In 1973
it was repaired at a cost of $38,710.
In the winter of 1980 it was damaged by ice and the structure
was repaired by the state in March of 1981 at a cost of $8,000. Someone
unsuccessfully attempted to burn it on the night of September 11, 1983.
The bridge is in bad shape and had been closed to all traffic when photographed
in September 2002. However when re-visited September 11, 2004 it
had undergone extensive stabilization efforts and the bridges walkway had
been re-opened to the public. Also known as the Woodsville
Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places April 18, 1977. (Sep
