Pittsburg-Clarksville Covered Bridge
Coos County, New Hampshire 
New Hampshire No. 34 (WGN 29-04-03) (WGCB NH-04-03):  (1876; rehabilitated 1974)  A single-span Paddleford truss, with added Burr arches, 88' 6" over the Connecticut River.   Located:  South of Pittsburg, New Hampshire off US 3 on Fletcher Road.   Directions:  About 1 mile south of jct. SR 145 and US 3 in Pittsburg, New Hampshire on US 3 then left on Fletcher Road 0.1 mile to the bridge.  In 1878, the Town of Clarksville, New Hampshire was approached by Pittsburg, New Hampshire officials "....to see what the town would do about paying the Town of Pittsburg for building two-thirds of the bridge near the Fletcher Mill.  Voted (by Clarksville) not to pay the Town of Pittsburg anything." There were seven covered bridges built in Pittsburg, New Hampshire and this is one of three that remain.  It was rehabilitated in 1974 at a cost of $6,700. The costs of the rehabilitation were shared by the towns of Pittsburg, New Hampshire and Clarksville, New Hampshire as well as the state.  It was closed to traffic in 1981 and is open to pedestrian traffic only. The ruins of a sawmill owned by Ebeneezer Fletcher, built in 1825, can be seen upstream on the left bank of the river near the bridge. Also known as the Bacon Road Covered Bridge.  It is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. (Oct 2003)
