County, New Hampshire
New Hampshire No.
21 (WGN 29-10-01) (WGCB NH-10-01): (1881; restored 1983)
A multiple Kingpost truss 91' with a clear span of 76' 4" over Mill brook.
Located: South west of Cornish City, New Hampshire, off Cornish City Road.
Directions: About 2 miles east of SR 12A on Cornish City Road then
right 0.1 mile to the bridge. It was built by James Tasker at a cost
of $873.00. The bridge was used by only one family and given its name because
of its close proximity to a local blacksmith shop that once stood in an
area know as Slab City. Milton Graton repaired and restored the bridge
in 1983. The cost of repairing the bridge, in combination with the
Cornish-Dingleton Covered Bridge (29-10-02),
was $30,000. The structure was reopened to pedestrian traffic only
on September 18, 1983. It was also known as Blacksmith Shop Covered
Bridge and Kenyon Hill Covered Bridge. Kenyon Hill is
the name of the hill on the eastern side of the bridge. It was listed on
the National Register of Historic Places May 23, 1978. (Sep 2002) |
