Cornish-Blow Me Down Covered Bridge
Sullivan County, New Hampshire
New Hampshire No. 23  (WGN 29-10-10) (WGCB NH-10-10): (1877; renovated 2002)  A multiple Kingpost truss 85' 9" with a clear span of 74' 6" spanning a deep gorge on the Blow-Me-Down Brook.  Located: SW of Plainfield Village, New Hampshire.  Directions: 1.4 SW of Plainfield Post Office on SR 12A then left 0.4 mile on Mill Road to the bridge.  The original cost for the bridge was $528.00.  The bridge was build by James Tasker in 1877 and repaired by Milton Graton and his son Arnold in 1980.  The bridge has narrow window like openings on each side. Two on the upstream side and one on the downstream side. The bridge is posted for six tons.  It also appeared to be under additional renovation and was closed to vehicular traffic when I took this series of photographs on September 23, 2002.  It has also been known as the Bayless Covered Bridge and the George Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places May 19, 1978..  (Sep 2002)
