Lyme-Edgell Covered Bridge
Grafton County, New Hampshire 
(WGN 29-05-11)  (WGCB NH-05-11):  (1885; repaired 1936 and 1971; new roof 1982) A single-span Town lattice truss 132' over Clay Brook.  Located:  One mile south of SR 10, two miles south of Orford Village.  Directions:  From I 91, Exit 14 in Vermont, take SR 113 (Lyme Road) 1.5 miles to US 5.  Make a right on US 5 and go 65 yards and bear left onto SR 113 (Lyme Road) .02 mile and cross over the Connecticut River into New Hampshire.  At this point Lyme Road becomes East Thetford Road.   Continue east on East Thetford Road 0.1 mile and turn left (north) onto River Road to bridge. Built by Walter Piper at a cost of $1,825.27 when he was only eighteen years old. It was assembled on the town common and moved by oxcart to its present location. In 1936, it washed off its northern abutment. It was moved back, and tied down with cables. State bridge maintenance crews repaired the abutments, put in a new floor, and trued up the structure in 1971 at a cost of $23,829. On the night of February 21, 1982 the roof collapsed from a heavy load of snow. In July 1982, it was repaired at a cost of $30,000.  Also known as the Lyme-Orford Covered Bridge.   It is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.  (Sep 2004)
