Melendy Pond Covered Footbridge
 Hillsborough County, New Hampshire
(WGN 29-06-p) (WGCB NH-06-p): (1982) (Private)  A single-span Stringer truss footbridge 22' 2" with 6' 2" alcoves over First Brook.  Located in Hudson Township, New Hampshire, in Hudson, New Hampshire at 12 Melendy Road.  Directions:  From Hudson, New Hampshire at the intersection of SR 3A and SR 111, go south 0.2 mile on SR 3A to Central Street, go left 0.5 mile to Melendy Road on the right, follow 0.2 mile to No. 12 on the left.  On private property so request permission to visit.  The bridge is built over a dam spillway along First Brook that forms Melendy Pond.  The bridges architecture is know as gable and valley because of the full height alcoves off each side giving the bridge a "cross" shape.  The structure is supported by two steel I-beam stringers, set on mortared cement blocks on mortared, large stone block walls of the spillway.    Dark weathered vertical boarding covers the sides and dark horizontal boarding covers the gables.  A concrete slab forms the floor and the roof is covered with dark weathered cedar shingles.  Both the roof and portals project beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior and there is a cupola mounted at the center of the roof peak.  (Sep 2007)
