57 (WGN 29-10-03) (WGCB NH-10-03):
(1871-72; rebuilt 1909) A two-span, double Town-Pratt lattice
truss bridge, 216' 7" long with clear spans of 103' 0" and 98' 0" and a
center pier over the Sugar River. Located: West of Kelleyville,
New Hampshire off Chandler Road. Directions: 3.7 miles west of Newport,
New Hampshire on SR 11/SR 103 and left on Chandler Road 1.2 miles to
the bridge on the north side of the road. The present bridge was
built in 1907 by the Boston and Maine Railroad to replace a wood lattice
bridge built in 1871-1872 by the Sugar River Railroad. This section
of rail line has been abandoned. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places June 10, 1975. (Sep 2002) |
