Newport-Wright's (RR) Covered Bridge

New Hampshire No. 58  (WGN 29-10-04) (WGCB NH-10-04): (1871-72; rebuilt 1906)  A double Town-Pratt lattice truss with laminated arches, 122' over the Sugar River, West of Chandler Station.  Located:  West of Kelleyville off Chandler Road.  Directions:  3.7 miles west of Newport, New Hampshire on SR 11/SR 103 and left on Chandler Road 2 miles to old RR right of way access and walk west 0.4 mile to the bridge.  It was built in 1906 by the Bridge and Building Department of the Boston and Maine Railroad. It replaced a wooden bridge built by the Sugar River Railroad in 1871 and 1872.  The bridge is named for S. K. Wright who sold the right-of-way to the Sugar River Railroad.  This section of rail line has been abandoned.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places June 10, 1975.  (Sep 2002; Sep 2007)
