Plainfield-Meriden Covered Bridge
Sullivan County, New Hampshire
New Hampshire No. 24  (WGN 29-10-08) (WGCB NH-10-08): (1880; repaired 1954; rebuilt 1963; repaired 1977 and 1985)   A two-span multiple Kingpost truss, 80' long with clear spans of 36' 9" and 29' 3" over Blood's Brook.  Original cost was $685.00. Located:  NW of Meriden, New Hampshire, on Colby Hill Road.  Directions:  About 1 mile NW of NH 120 at Meriden on Brook Road then left 0.1 mile to the bridge.  The third bridge on the site with the first two being open timber.  Built by James Tasker for a fee of $465. Levi Sanderson was paid $220 for building the bridge abutments.  After being damaged by Hurricane Carol on August 30, 1954, it was repaired at a cost of $3,000 and In 1963, the bridge was rebuilt and steel beams were added to carry a load of fifteen tons.  In the spring  of 1977, heavy snows caused the roof to cave in and repairs cost $8,296.   Then in 1985, the state repaired the substructure for $57,000.  Also know as the Mill Covered Bridge and the Mill Hollow Covered Bridge .  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places August 27, 1980.   (Sep 2002 - 2003)
