Riverwalk Covered  Footbridge

(WGN 29-05-l)  (WGCB NH-05-l)  (2004) A three-span Warren truss footbridge, 351' 3" over the Ammonosuc River. Located: In Littleton, New Hampshire off Riverglen Lane on Riverwalk Trail. Directions: From I-93, exit 41, take US 302 west 0.7 mile toward Littleton to Riverglen Lane on the left side just before the highway bridge over the Ammonosuc River, follow 0.2 mile to the bridge on the right. The bridge cost approximately $1,000.00.00 to build and was dedicated on August 1, 2004. It is the longest covered footbridge in New Hampshire and New England. The Warren truss consists of sixteen panels in the center span and twenty panels in each of the end spans. The structure rests on poured concrete abutments and two decorative, facsimile stone block faced, poured concrete piers, tapered on the upstream side support the footbridge. The trusses are constructed with glue-laminated timber diagonal members and end posts, glue-laminated timber upper and lower planks fastened with steel connectors plates. Vertical tongue and groove boarding covers the gables and sides to rail height, open 6 feet above to the eaves. It has a gray painted steel roof. A double-rail handrail runs along each side in the interior with a floor of crosswise planking. The exterior and the interior of the bridge are stained orange-brown with white painted trim boards.
