Conway-Saco River Covered Bridge
Carroll County, New Hampshire 
New Hampshire No. 48 (WGN 29-02-03) (WGCB NH-02-03):  (1890; restored 1988)  A two-span Paddleford truss, with added Burr arches, 224' 9' over the Saco River. Located:  Just north of SR 16 on SR 153 in Conway, New Hampshire.  Directions:  0.2 mile north of jct. SR 16 and SR 153 at Conway, New Hampshire then just right to  the bridge.  In 1850, Jacob Berry and Peter Paddleford built the first covered bridge to replace a framed log bridge that had collapsed at this site. The bridge stood until the Swift River Covered Bridge (WGN 29-02-05), located just upstream, crashed into it in 1869. It was rebuilt by Allen and Warren of Conway but again destroyed by a tannery fire in 1890. The current bridge was built by Charles Broughton and his son Frank.  The bridge was restored in 1988.  (Sep 2003)
