Buskirk Covered Bridge
Washington and Rensselaer Counties, New York 
(WGN 32-58-04/32-42-02)  (WGCB NY-58-04/NY-42-02)  (1857; restored 2005)  A single-span Howe truss 164' over the Hoosic River.  Located:  Between Rensselaer and Washington Counties, New York, in the town of Hoosic-White Creek, New York.  Directions:  Buskirk, New York is located on SR 67 west of Eaglebridge, New York.  Take Washington Road (CR 103) from SR 67 north to the bridge in Buskirk, New York. The bridge is painted barn red and has an opening under the eaves.  The deck planking is crosswise as well as a shaker roof.  Both the abutments and wing walls are concrete.  It has a total of 12 windows, 6 per side, 5 rectangular and 1 square per side, all with shaker roofs.  A former plaque, which had not been replaced due to the renovation, stated: "Buskirk's Red Covered Bridge."   Built in 1857 to replace a 1804 bridge.  This crossing served the Great Northern Turnpike beginning in 1799.  The structure is currently undergoing extensive restoration, however it is open to traffic.  The estimated cost of the restoration is $2.2 million.  When we visited on May 17, 2005 the bridge renovations were almost complete and it was being repainted.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 8, 1978.  (May 2005)
