Beavertown Covered Bridge
Snyder County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-55-02)  (WGCB PA-55-02)(1870; restored 2001)  A single-span Burr arch truss 103' 6" over Middle Creek.  Located:  On bypassed section of Covered Bridge Road (TR 600), approximately 2 miles east of Beavertown, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Beavertown, Pennsylvania, from the jct. of SR 522 and SR 4007, go north on SR 522 for 1.5 miles to Covered Bridge Road (TR 600).  Turn left on Covered Bridge Road (TR 600) and go 1 mile to the bridge.  The bridge was bypassed by a new highway in 1979.  It is covered with vertical board and batten siding on both sides and the portals and painted barn red, and has a sheet metal roof.  The deck consists of crosswise planking with no runners.  The only opening is the ones under the eaves.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments reinforced with concrete, and there are stone and mortar wing walls and parapets.  The parapets are capped with concrete. There is a plaque mounted on the portal indicating the bridges name as the "Dreese's Covered Bridge."  However when the World Guide Number was assigned it was referred to as the "Beavertown Covered Bridge."  Also known as the Dreese Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 10, 1979.    (Sep 2006)
