Burkholder Covered Bridge
Somerset County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-56-01)  (WGCB PA-56-01) (1870) A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 52' 4" over Buffalo Creek.  Located:  On Burkholder Bridge Road (TR 548), approximately 2.2 miles northeast of Garrett, Brothers Valley Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  Just northeast of Garrett, Pennsylvania, and north of Garrett Slope Station, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of PA 219 and Burkholder Bridge Road (TR 548), go west for 0.1 mile on Burkholder Bridge Road (TR 548) to the bridge.  It has has a mixture of nine-ply and six-ply laminated Burr arches, which sandwich a multiple Kingpost truss.  The siding on both sides and portals is vertical boards with the top half of each side is open, providing a view of the multiple Kingpost truss.  The Burr arch is located below the side openings.  The bridge has a metal roof, and a deck made of random width crosswise planking.  It rests on cut stone and mortar abutments, and has road level wing walls on one end only, and is heavily reinforced with four I-beams under the deck.  Also known as the Beechdale Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980.  (Oct 2005)
