restored 1998) A single-span Queenpost with Kingpost Truss 74' 4"
over Blockhouse Creek. Located: On Covered Bridge Road
(TR 816) Jackson Township, Pennsylvania. Directions: In Buttonwood,
Pennsylvania from the jct. of SR 284 (where SR 284 ends) and SR 1009 (where
SR 1009 begins), go north on SR 1009 for 0.8 mile to Covered Bridge Road
(TR 816). Turn left (west) on Covered Bridge Road (TR 816) for 0.4
mile to the bridge. This is another of the few Pennsylvania covered
bridges designed with this variation of the Kingpost truss system with
each side having a Queenpost truss that sandwiches a Kingpost truss.
It was restored in 1998 at a cost of $147,333.00. A reopening ceremony
was held on October 30, 1998, the same day as the Cogan House Covered
Bridge (WGN 38-41-02).
The structure rests on poured concrete abutments. The sides and portals
are covered with barn red painted vertical clapboard siding with approximately
four foot wide openings under the eaves for ventilation. The floor
consists of wide crosswise boarding and two three board lengthwise runners
and a shake roof. Also known as the Blockhouse Covered Bridge.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1980.
