Clay Covered Bridge
 Perry County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-50-18)  (WGCB PA-50-18)  (1890; restored 1997)  A single-span Burr arch truss 80' 11" over  Buffalo Creek.  Located:  In Little Buffalo State Park, just north of Juniata Furnace, Centre Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  Little Buffalo State Park is located just north of Juniata Furnace, Pennsylvania, on SR 1011 (south of SR 4010).  There are two entrances to the park.  The southernmost entrance leads to the small parking area near Shoaff’s Mill, and the northern one leads to the main parking lot.  The bridge is easily accessible from either parking area.  This bridge was moved to Little Buffalo State Park from its original site near New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, several miles south of the park.  In its new location, the structure was placed on new concrete abutments.  On January 26, 1994, the bridge collapsed under heavy snows.  The main truss timbers and siding were salvaged and stored under cover of the bridge site until the bridge was restored in 1997.  The restored bridge has barn red vertical board siding, white trimmed portals, a cedar shake roof and a deck of random-width lengthwise planks reinforced with steel.  It has no wing walls and the only side openings run lengthwise directly under the eaves.  A sign on the portal indicates the bridges name is "Clay's Bridge." However, when the World Guide Number was assigned it was known as the "Clay Covered Bridge" with a alternate name of the Wahneta Covered Bridge.  (Sep 2006)
