(WGN 38-05-12)  (WGCB PA-05-12)  (1880)   A single-span Burr arch truss 126' over the Rayston Branch of the Juniata River.  Located at the entrance to Old Bedford Village, approximately 2 miles north of Bedford, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  Take Business US 220 to the entrance to Old Bedford Village, which is 0.85 mile south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Entrance and approximately 2 miles north of Bedford, Pennsylvania.  The bridge is very visible from Business US 220.  It was originally built in Reynoldsdale, Pennsylvania approximately fifteen miles north of its present location.  In 1975 it was relocated and rebuilt at the entrance to Old Bedford Village, and a pedestrian walkway was added to the original structure.  When photographed April 27, 2005 the walkway was closed.  The Burr arch truss system has been heavily reinforced with steel U-channels added to the timbers that support the deck of the bridge.  The bridge is unpainted, been left to weather naturally.  It is covered with vertical, random-width tongue and groove boards on the sides and walkway, portals and horizontal boards on the main portals.  The roof is constructed of cedar shakes and the deck is of crosswise planking.  The structure rests on poured concrete abutments with concrete, road-high wingwalls and the sides are open directly under the eaves for about one-quarter of the side’s height.  Also known as the Reynoldsdale Covered Bridge and the Reynoldsville Covered Bridge.  (Apr 2005)
