Cuppett's Covered Bridge
Bedford County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-05-18)  (WGCB PA-05-18)  (1882)  (Private)  A single-span Burr arch truss 79' 9.5" over Dunning Creek.  Located:  Just east of SR 96, approximately 1 mile north of New Paris, Napier Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  From the Ryot Covered Bridge (WGN 38-05-17), continue on Dunning Creek Road for 0.65 mile to the jct. with SR 4013 and SR 4026; bear right on SR 4013 for 0.3 mile to SR 96.  Turn left on SR 96 and go south for 0.7 mile.  The bridge is just to the left on Private Property.  It was originally owned by William and Phillip Cuppett.  The unpainted vertical boards on the lower one-third of the exterior follow the curve of the low Burr arch.  The interior is covered to the same height as the exterior with wide, unpainted, horizontal boards.  The portals are unusual in that the gable end is covered with horizontal siding, and the entire gable structure is supported by relatively light weight, vertical posts.  The bridge rests on stone and mortal abutments and has no wingwalls.  Open for Foot Traffic only.  Also known as the Cuppet Covered Bridge, the Cupperts Covered Bridge and the New Paris Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1986.  (Apr 2005)
