Danley Covered Bridge
Washington County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-63-11)  (WGCB PA-63-11)  (c. post 1860; closed 1996; reopened 2000)  A single-span Queenpost truss 48' 2" long over Robinson Fork of the Wheeling Creek.  Located:  On Dogwood Hill Road (TR 379), 1.2 miles north of Good Intent, West Finley Township, Pennsylvania,  Directions:   In Good Intent, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of Good Intent Road (SR 3025) and Robinson Run (TR 343), go north on Good Intent Road (SR 3025) for 1.2 miles to Dogwood Hill Road (TR 379).  Turn right on Dogwood Hill Road (TR 379) and go 0.1 mile to the bridge.  The bridge is located along a gravel township road in a hidden valley.  The timbers in the Queenpost truss construction of the bridge are all sawed which indicates the date of the bridge's construction is post 1860.  The structure is covered with vertical board siding on both the sides and the portals are painted barn red inside and out.  It has a sheet metal roof, with a deck of crosswise planking, two rectangular windows on each side and eave openings.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments.  On one end, the wing walls and parapets are made of stone and mortar, one of which is quite long, and on the other end they are made of concrete.  The deck is supported with two sets of wooden timbers that rest in the streambed.  Records indicated that the bridge had been closed in 1996, but was not placed on the twelve year plan for restoration.  In May 2000, it was reopened.  When visited on April 28, 2005 there was a handwritten " road closed" sign in front of the bridge.  Heavy rains had apparently washed out the gravel road further up the valley and some locals had placed the sign as a warning to travelers.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1979.  (Apr 2005)
