Davis Covered Bridge
Columbia County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-19-16)  (WGCB PA-19-16)(1875; repaired late 1800's)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 87' 4" over North Branch of Roaring Creek.  Located:  On Shakespear Road, northwest of Slabtown, Cleveland Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Slabtown, Pennsylvania at the jct. of SR 42 and Ideal Park Road (SR 2001), go north on SR 42 for 1 mile to the jct. with Queen City Road (TR 377).  Turn left (west) on Queen City Road (TR 377) for 0.9 mile to Shakespear Road.  The bridge is just to the right on Shakespear Road. Built at a cost of $1,248.00.  In the late 1800s, a Davis, who lived on a nearby farm, began repairs on the bridge and gave it his name.  The structure rests on poured concrete abutments with wing walls.  The Burr arches sandwich a multiple Kingpost truss.  It has vertical board and batten siding on the portals, with vertical boards on the sides and a sheet metal roof.  Its deck has runners on crosswise planking.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 29, 1979.  (Apr 2006)
