Ebenezer Covered Bridge
Washington County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-63-14)  (WGCB PA-63-14)  (Date built unknown)  A single-span Queenpost truss 38' 4" over Mingo Creek.  Located:  In Mingo Creek County Park, just northeast of Kammerer, Nottingham Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  From the park access road, approximately 1 mile east of Kammerer, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 136 and Chapel Hill Road, go north on Chapel Hill Road for 0.65 mile.  Turn left on the park road (Mingo Creek Road) for 0.3 mile.  Bear left for 0.1 mile to the bridge and parking area.  This bridge is one of the most known covered bridges in Washington County.  However, almost nothing is known of the origins of the bridge.  It was moved to Mingo Creek Park in 1977 and placed on the abutments of an earlier bridge.  Alterations had to be made to the bridge to incorporate it into the landscape.  From the side, some indicate the revised structure resembles an old style train caboose.   The bridge is covered with vertical board siding on the sides and portals, is painted barn red both inside and out, has a sheet metal roof and a deck of crosswise planking.  It has two rectangular windows on each side, with fairly wide eave openings.  The deck is reinforced with five steel "I" beans which rest on the original abutments reinforced with concrete.  Its wooden approaches appear to be a Pony truss.  It also has long cut stone and mortar wing walls that are capped off with concrete.  The bridge is also known as the Ebenezer Church Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1979.  (Oct 2005)
