A single-span plus Burr arch truss 116' 5.5" over Sherman’s Creek.
Located: On an unnamed, unmarked road, approximately 1 mile southeast
of Blain, Jackson Township, Pennsylvania. Directions: Just
south of Blain, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of SR 274 and SR 3006, go south
on SR 3006 for 0.8 mile. Turn left on an unnamed road and go 0.15
mile; turn left on another unnamed road and go 0.3 mile to the bridge.
Its faded barn red sides and white trimmed portals are covered with random
width vertical board siding on both sides and portals, a rusty metal roof,
and a deck of lengthwise planks over crosswise planking. The structure
rests on concrete abutments and a center pier of concrete, and it has stone
and mortar wing walls. The undercarriage has been reinforced with
steel I-beams. The only side openings in the bridge are those under
the eaves. Although the bridge was damaged during Hurricane Fran
in September 1996, it had been repaired by the spring of 1997. It
received new portals, new beams, and new side boards, and the end posts
were repaired. Also known as the Turkey Tail Covered Bridge. |
