Esther Furnace Covered Bridge
Columbia County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-19-20)  (WGCB PA-19-20):   (1882)  A two-span Queenpost truss 99' 6" over North Branch of Roaring Creek.  Located:  On Esther Furnace Road (TR 373), northwest of Slabtown, Cleveland Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  From the Davis Covered Bridge (WGN 38-19-16), continue on Queen City Road (TR 377) for 1 mile to a “T”, turn right for 0.2 mile to Esther Furnace Road; turn right for 0.2 mile to the bridge.  It cost $1,044.75 to build and is named after the Esther Furnace which was built in 1817 to smelt iron.  Painted barn red inside and out its sides and portals are covered with vertical boards.  One end of the structure has the original stone wing walls, with the other end having poured concrete.  Its deck consists of runners over crosswise planking and it has a metal roof.  In addition to the typical opening under the eaves, there is one window at each end where the road curves.  Also known as the Furnace Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 29, 1979.  (Apr 2006)
