A single-span Burr arch truss 106' over Brush Creek. Located:
Approximately 1.5 miles west of Jackson Mills, East Providence Township,
Pennsylvania. Directions: From the Jackson’s Mill Covered Bridge
(WGN 38-05-25), continue south through the
bridge on Covered Bridge Road (TR 413) and go 0.7 mile to stop sign at
intersection with SR 2029. Turn right on SR 2029 and go 0.85 mile to the
jct. with Memorial Church Road. Turn right into the gravel parking
area. The bridge can been seen from the concrete bridge just ahead
on SR 2029 or by walking down the gravel road past the parking area to
the old mill. The path to the bridge is just to the left of the mill.
The bridge has been bypassed and is only open for foot traffic. It
is covered with vertical boards on the sides and horizontal boards on the
portals. The downstream side is open above the lower three feet,
which almost completely exposes the Burr truss system. The upstream
side is covered up to the narrow opening under the eaves. The interior
of each side is also covered for three feet above the deck. Roof
is covered with sheet metal, and the deck consists of runners laid over
crosswise planning. The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments
and has no wingwalls. As of April 27, when we photographed the bridge,
the present owners had not posted the property with “No Trespassing” signs.
Also known as the Felton Mill Covered Bridge and Felton's Mill
Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic
Places on April 10, 1980. (Apr 2005) |
