Fleisher Covered Bridge
 Perry County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-50-17)  (WGCB PA-50-17)  (1887)  A single-span plus Burr arch truss 123' 8.5" over Big Buffalo Creek.
Located:  On Fairground Road, on the northwest edge of Newport, Oliver Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Newport, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of the north end of Fourth Street and Fairground Road, go west on Fairground Road for 1 mile to the bridge.  It is painted barn red, and trimmed with white.   It has vertical board siding on both the sides and the portal and a sheet metal roof. The deck consists of crosswise planking which, is overlaid with lengthwise planking.  The bridges load limit is fourteen tons.  The original stone and mortar abutments have been reinforced with concrete.  The only side openings in the bridge are those under the eaves.  A sign on the portal indicates the bridges name is "Fleisher's Bridge."  However, when the World Guide Number was assigned it was known as the "Fleisher Covered Bridge."   It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 25, 1980.  (Sep 2006)
