relocated 1986) A single-span Queenpost truss 40' 1.5" over a Branch
of Briar Creek. Located: In in Briar Creek Park, Brian Creek
Township, Pennsylvania. Directions: Entrance to the Park is
along Lake Road (SR 1017), approximately 0.8 mile south of Evansville,
Pennsylvania. The bridge is located near the Picnic Area toward the
end of the Park Road. It is not visible from the entrance.
Originally built over the West Branch of Briar Creek near Fowlersville,
Pennsylvania by Charles King at a cost of $397.00. It was moved to
the Briar Creek Park in 1986 after a new bridge was constructed over Briar
Creek. It was named after the Fowler family, who settled in area
after the Revolutionary War. One of the last bridges built in the
county, it has vertical board siding and rests on concrete abutments without
wing walls. It has a metal roof and is decked with runners on crosswise
planking. Closed to motor traffic. It was listed on the National
Register of Historic Places on November 29, 1979. (Apr 2006) |
