38-15-02) (WGCB PA-15-02): (1889; burned c. 1990-91;
restored 1992) A single span Burr arch truss 78' 1" over Little Elk
Creek. Located: On Hickory Hill Road (TR 344), Elk Township, Pennsylvania.
Directions: In Hickory Hill, Pennsylvania from the jct. of Lewisville
Road (PA 472) and Hickory Hill Road (TR 344) go south on Hickory Hill Road
(TR 344) for 1.7 miles to the bridge. It was set on fire, supposedly
by College students, prior to the winter of 1990-1991 but by 1992 it had
been completely restored. The deck has been reinforced with eight
crosswise steel I-beams. The structure rests on the original stone and
mortar abutments and wing walls which are capped with concrete and painted
white. The sides are covered with unpainted vertical boards and batten
and the portals are covered with white painted ship lapped siding.
The floor consists of lengthwise planking laid on top of crosswise planking
and a cedar shake roof. It was listed on the National Register of
Historic Places on December 10, 1980. (Jun 2008)
