Hall-Sheeder Covered Bridge
Chester County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-15-12) (WGCB PA-15-12):  (1850; center support pier added date unknown)  A single-span Burr arch truss with added mid span cement pier 100' over French Creek.  Located:  On Hollow Road (SR 1033), East Vincent Township. Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Sheeder, Pennsylvania from the jct. of Pughtown Road (SR 1028) and Hollow Road (SR 1033) go south on Hollow Road (SR 1033) for 0.3 mile to the bridge.  There is some controversy over the bridges name.  A sign on its portal indicates it is the Sheeder-Hall (Covered) Bridge and the World Guide of Covered Bridges lists it as the Hall-Sheeder Covered Bridge.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments with a center concrete support, which was added in recent years.  It has stone wing walls capped with concrete.  The sides and portals are covered with narrow clapboard siding, the sides are painted barn red and the portals white.  The portals feature a unique step design.  It is open under the eves for ventilation and there is one opposing wide horizontal window on each side with a small awning-type roof over the opening.  The deck is reinforced with four steel I-beams and has lengthwise plank flooring laid on top of crosswise planking.  It has a shake roof.  Also known as the Sheeder-Hall Covered Bridge, the Hall's Covered Bridge and the Sheeder Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of  Historic Places on April 23, 1973.
