There is some controversy over the bridges name. A sign on its portal
indicates it is the Sheeder-Hall
(Covered) Bridge and the
World
Guide of Covered Bridges lists it as the
Hall-Sheeder Covered Bridge.
The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments with a center concrete
support, which was added in recent years. It has stone wing walls
capped with concrete. The sides and portals are covered with narrow
clapboard siding, the sides are painted barn red and the portals white.
The portals feature a unique step design. It is open under the eves
for ventilation and there is one opposing wide horizontal window on each
side with a small awning-type roof over the opening. The deck is
reinforced with four steel I-beams and has lengthwise plank flooring laid
on top of crosswise planking. It has a shake roof. Also known
as the Sheeder-Hall Covered Bridge, the Hall's Covered Bridge
and the Sheeder Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National
Register of Historic Places on April 23, 1973. (Jun 2008) |
