Hayes Covered Bridge
Union County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-60-02)  (WGCB PA-60-02)(1882)  A single-span multiple Kingpost truss 70' 2" over Buffalo Creek.  Located:  On Hoover Road (TR 376), approximately 2 miles west of Mifflinburg, West Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, from the jct. of SR 45 and SR 304, go west on SR 45 for 2.4 miles to Hoover Road (TR 376).  Turn right (north) on Hoover Road (TR 376) and go 0.6 mile to the bridge.   It is covered with barn red vertical boards and battens on both the sides and the portals and a sheet metal roof.  The deck has lengthwise planking laid over crosswise planking.  The structure rests on abutments of cut stone and mortar reinforced with concrete, and the wing walls and parapets are made of stone and mortar.  It has no openings other than the lengthwise openings under the eaves.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 8, 1980.  (Sep 2006)
