Heikes Covered Bridge
Adams County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-01-14)  (WGCB PA-01-14)  (1892) (Private)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 64' over Bermudian Creek. Located:  Bypassed by Willow Lane, approximately 2.5 miles north of Heidlersburg, Pennsylvania between Tyrone and Huntington Townships, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Heidlersburg, Pennsylvania at the jct. of SR 234 and SR 3001, go north on SR 3001 for 0.9 mile to Oxford Road (SR 1016). Turn left on Oxford Road (SR 1016) and go 0.6 mile to Willow Lane.  Turn right on Willow Lane and go 2 miles on the dead end road to the bypassed bridge on the right. It is closed to motor traffic.  Currently being used for storage on private farm property and the far entrance has been closed off.  The downstream side and portals are covered with shiplap siding and the upstream side is covered with clipboard siding.  The paint is predominantly barn red with a touch of white trim and the sides are open at approximately mid-wall height exposing some of the medium height Burr arch and the multiple Kingpost truss systems.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments placed on concrete footings.  There are relatively long stone and mortar wing walls which rise to concrete capped parapets only on the Willow Land side and the deck is covered with lengthwise planking.  Also known as Heike's Covered Bridge.  It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on August 25, 1980.  (Apr 2005)
