Henninger Farm Covered Bridge
 Dauphin County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-22-11)  (WGCB PA-22-11)  (c. 1850; damaged by fire 2000; repaired c. 2000)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 72' 1"  over Wisconisco Creek.  Located:  NE of Elizabethville, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  2.2 miles E. of jct. SR 225 on US 209, then left 0.7 mileson SR 1006 and right on TR 617 to North Rd. then left for about half a mile to the bridge.  Located:  On bypassed section of by Matter Road, 4.7 miles northeast of Elizabethville, Pennsylvania.  Directions: In Elizabethville, Pennsylvania at the jct. of US 209 and SR 225, go north on SR 225 for 2.3 miles to the jct. with Rakers Mill Road (SR 1006).  Turn right (east) on Rakers Mill Road (SR 1006) and go 2 miles to Henninger Road.  Turn left on Henninger Road, and go 0.3 miles to Matter Road.  Turn left on Mater Road and go 0.1 mile to the bypassed bridge on the left.  Prior to Hurricane Agnes Flood of 1972, there were nine covered bridges spanning the Wisconisco Creek in Dauphin County.  This is the only one remaining and it was bypassed by a new highway in the early part of 1991.  A Recreational area has been made around the bridge.  The sides and portals are covered with white vertical boards, and the deck is lengthwise planking.  The roof is metal and is painted red.  The only side openings run lengthwise directly under the eaves.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments that have been reinforced with concrete.  It has stone and mortar wing walls and parapets.  The Burr arch does not sandwich a multiple Kingpost truss.  It is only on the inside of the multiple Kingpost truss and has additional straight beams which follow the curve of the arch.  The bridge was a victim of arson in 2000.  Also known as the Henninger Covered Bridge and the Stroup Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 18, 1978.   (Sep 2006)
