Agnes Flood of 1972, there were nine covered bridges spanning the Wisconisco
Creek in Dauphin County. This is the only one remaining and it was
bypassed by a new highway in the early part of 1991. A Recreational
area has been made around the bridge. The sides and portals are covered
with white vertical boards, and the deck is lengthwise planking.
The roof is metal and is painted red. The only side openings run
lengthwise directly under the eaves. The structure rests on stone
and mortar abutments that have been reinforced with concrete. It
has stone and mortar wing walls and parapets. The Burr arch does
not sandwich a multiple Kingpost truss. It is only on the inside
of the multiple Kingpost truss and has additional straight beams which
follow the curve of the arch. The bridge was a victim of arson in
2000. Also known as the Henninger Covered Bridge and the Stroup
Covered Bridge. It was listed on the National Register of Historic
Places on December 18, 1978. (Sep 2006) |
