Herline Covered Bridge
Bedford County, Pennsylvania 
(WGN 38-05-11 #2)  (WGCB PA-05-11 #2)  (1902; restored 1997)   A single-span Burr arch truss 136' 4.5" over the Juniata River.  Located:  On Watson Road (SR 4007) approximately 1 mile north of Manns Choice, Pennsylvania between Harrison and Napier Townships, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Manns Choice, Pennsylvania where combined SR 31/SR 96 divide, go east on SR 31 for 1 mile to Watson Road (SR 4007).  Turn left on Watson Road (SR 4007) and go 0.4 mile to the bridge.  It has has been closed to traffic since 1983.  In the summer of 1996, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania agreed to finance the restoration of the structure if it could then be turned over to the Bedford County for future maintenance.  The restoration was completed in 1997 and the restored bridge now rests on concealed, heavy, steel stringers.  The stringers rest on reconstructed abutments, that extend to road level wingwalls.  The abutments and wingwalls consist of poured concrete faced with cut stone and mortar.  The structure is painted barn red, has vertical board siding on the sides and horizontal clapboard siding on the white trimmed portals.  It has a deck of runners laid over crosswise planks and is covered with a corrugated metal roof..  Also known as the Heirline Covered Bridge, and the Kinton Covered BridgeIt was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1980.    (Apr 2005)
