Kintersburg Covered Bridge

(WGN 38-32-05) (WGCB PA-32-05): (1877)  A single-span Howe truss 68' over Crooked Creek.  Located:  On bypassed section of Musser Road (TR 612), Kintersburg, Rayne Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Kintersburg, Pennsylvania at the jct. of Tonoma Road (TR 809/SR 1005) and Musser Road (TR 612), go south on Musser Road (TR 612) for 0.2 mile to the bypassed bridge on the left.  Originally built at a cost of $893.00.  It is one of the few Howe truss covered bridges left in Pennsylvania and the only one in Indiana County.  The structure rests on cut stone and mortar abutments reinforced with concrete.  It also has additional timber cribbing located on concrete footings a short distance from each end.  It also has short road level cut stone and mortar wing walls.  The sides are covered with barn red painted vertical boarding and the portals are covered with white painted vertical boarding.  Open under the eaves for ventilation. The floor consists of wide lengthwise planking and it has a sheet metal roof that projects beyond the entrances to provide additional weather protection for the interior. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 1979.  (Jun 2009)
