Knapp Covered Bridge
Bradford County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-08-01) (WGCB PA-08-01):  (1853; closed 1997; rehabilitated 2001)  A single-span multiple Kingpost with Burr arch truss 108' 2"  over Browns Creek.  Located:  On Covered Bridge Road, Luthers Mills, Burlington Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Luthers Mills, Pennsylvania, from the jct. of US 6 and Covered Bridge Road, go north on Covered Bridge Road for 0.1 mile to sign which indicates "Covered Bridge 1 Mile".  Turn right at the sign and continue to the bridge.  It is reported to be the highest Pennsylvania bridge above its stream bed.  There is a drop of more than thirty feet from the bridge to Browns Creek below.  The bridge was closed in 1997 awaiting approval of funds for restoration.  The estimated cost of the restoration was in excess of $800,000.00.  It was rehabilitated in 2001.  The structure rests on concrete and stone abutments with concrete and stone wing walls capped with concrete that are below road level.  It is covered with naturally weathered vertical boards and batten on the portals and the lower third of its sides exposing the upper part of the Burr arch and multiple Kingpost truss.  The floor consists of wide crosswise boarding and two three board lengthwise runners and a cedar shake roof.  Also known as the Knapp's Covered Bridge, the Luther's Mill Covered Bridge and the Brown's Creek Covered Bridge.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1980.  (May 2009)
