Larkin Covered Bridge
Chester County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-15-11) (WGCB PA-15-11):  (1881; relocated 1972; restored and relocated 2006)  A single-span Burr arch truss 77' 4" over a branch of Marsh Creek.  Located:  In Marsh Creek State Park, Upper Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  In Ludwigs Corner. Pennsylvania, from the jct. of SR 100 and SR 401, go south on SR 100 for 1.5 miles to Font Road (SR 4045).  Turn right on Font Road (SR 4045) for approximately 0.5 mile to Milford Road (SR 4045).  Turn left on Milford Road (SR 4045) and go approximately 1.7 miles, nearly to the end of the road.    The bridge now serves as a pedestrian crossing on a trail in the park.  Originally closed to motor traffic and relocated in 1972 and again relocated in 2006.  The bridge has a plaque beside it that states:  "Constructed 1854, Reconstructed 1881, Rescued 1972 and Relocated 2006."  It is unclear if the original 1854 structure was a covered bridge and if it was rebuilt or covered in 1881.  The World Guide of Covered Bridges lists its construction date as 1881.  The bridge was named from its original location near the Jesse Larkin Gristmill.  The structure rests on poured concrete abutments. The sides and portals are covered with new vertical boarding, open under the eves for ventilation.  The floor consists of crosswise planking and it has a shake roof.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980.  (Jun 2008)
